12/09/2008 , GP Indianapolis - Free Practice RAIN SLOW DOWNS THE ALICE TEAM
RIDERS AT INDIANAPOLIS DEBUT
Since the first morning’s hours the rain has fallen on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway complicating the learning procedure of the track by the MotoGP riders. In the first morning session Spanish Alice Team rider, Toni Elias, has concluded in tenth position while his teammate, Sylvain Guintoli, couldn’t go further then the sixteenth best lap time. In the afternoon session the rain has increased not allowing any riders to improve their morning best lap times. The weather forecast doesn’t promise any improvements for tomorrow, when there will be the qualifying session, and for Sunday when the first MotoGP race will begin on the historic Indianapolis circuit.
Fabiano Sterlacchini – Alice Team Technical Director
“Unluckily this afternoon the track conditions got worst complicating our work of set up of the bike. This afternoon we have mainly used the tyres from this morning session to save as many new tyres as possible for tomorrow qualifying session because it should be wet again. We have anyway improved and tomorrow we believe to be able to result more competitive with new tyres.”
Toni Elias – Alice Team rider (10th best lap time in 1’54.616 – Total laps 47)
“I was much better this morning. In the afternoon we have tried different set up of the bike and when we went back to this morning set up the rain was coming down even harder not allowing us to improve. The asphalt is really slippery in the first part and is not easy to find the right way to follow. In the old part instead the situation is more under control.”
Sylvain Guintoli – Alice Team rider (16th best lap time in 1’56.125 – Total laps 44)
“This morning I have met some difficulties. In the afternoon I started much better but after I registered my fastest lap time I slipped on the wet track finding my self on the ground. A pity because afterward I couldn’t find back the same feeling and the weather got even worst. The first part of the track isn’t so nice, the water remain on the asphalt and is not so fun to ride in that sector.” |
